Happy Valentine’s Day!
Yes, you read the title right. Yes, I know it is the second week of June. No, I haven’t lost my mind. This greeting would be common this coming Friday in Brazil as it is their Valentine’s Day.
I thought that this week I would focus on love for our devotional thought. And what could be more fitting than a day that celebrates love. Have I gone too far, am I grasping at straws? Maybe. However, the fact of the matter is that we don’t need to wait for a special day and we don’t need to hijack an occasion from another country to talk about love because God is love.
Love is a fitting topic for any day of the week, any date on the calendar and any moment of the day. Love can be applied to every circumstance of life from our highest celebrations to our deepest griefs.
God’s love for us is not a fickle love that depends on a mood or circumstances. It is not even dependant on what we have done or what we can do for God. In fact God loves us despite our shortcomings and waywardness. As Romans 5:8 states “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” Now that is love! true and lasting love. A love that we can always count on to be ours. It is a love that is eternal, all-encompassing yet very personal and sealed within our own hearts.
It is a love for the here and now, and a love for the days and circumstances that are yet unknown to us. It is a love that is dependable and strong. “Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:39
Is this love a reality in your life? Do you know the love that God has for you? A love so deep that He sent His One and Only Son. A love so wide that it encompasses our past, present and future. A love so rich that He has furnished a glorious mansion for you and streets of gold for you to walk upon one day. A love so personal that He has planted eternity in our hearts that we might be forever in His presence.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God! And that is what we are.” 1 John 3:1
Know this today…you are loved! If you are not a child of God, just call upon this vast love and be joined to Him today. Have a happy day celebrating the love of God.
