Becoming A Christian
1. God Loves You! The Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life”
The problem is that . . .
2. All of us have done, said or thought things that are not pleasing to God. This is called sin, and our sin has separated us from God.
The Bible says “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God is perfect and holy, and our sin separates us from God forever.
The good news is that, about 2,000 years ago,
3. God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.
Jesus is the Son of God. He lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin. “but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Jesus rose from the dead and now He lives in heaven with God His Father. He offers us the gift of eternal life — of living forever with Him in heaven if we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me.” John 14:6
God reaches out in love to you and wants you to be His child. “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12 —You can choose to ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sin and come in to your life as your Lord and Saviour.
If you would like to do that right now, you can pray this prayer:
I admit I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness; I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins. I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour and Lord. I commit myself to You, and ask You to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, and to help me become the kind of person You want me to be. Thank you, Father for loving me. In Jesus’ name, AMEN”
